Self Study Books
WHO ARE THESE BOOKS FOR?
If you can't make it to one of our review courses, or if you have weak areas and additional time to study, consider these self-study books for your study program.
AIS also offers additional books for subjects within FAR and BEC, and books containing the complete exams given from 1991 through 1995 with answer explanations.
If you aren't sure which book to choose first, one of the subtopic books within FAR may work well to begin your studies in your weaker areas.
If you have questions as you study these self study books, we invite you to ask the authors directly.
Just tell us the name of the AIS self study book and the page number you are studying.

PRIOR EXAM SOLUTIONS AND ANALYSIS (available in paper form only):
Includes the actual exam questions with our answers and explanations of answers. Two complete exams for each year. ($49 per year)
So you can see exactly what was asked, these are the actual questions that appeared on this examination and our explanations of the answers to those questions. A few rules have naturally changed since these examinations, especially in the tax area, but also in other areas such as earnings per share and comprehensive income.
When you finish these books you will understand the language of the area and the concepts needed to use the information given in problems. You will understand material that is a mystery to many of those sitting around you during the CPA exam.
BOOKS IN PAPER FORM
Your study program is important to us. We ship self study books by FedEx (and you can track your package at that Fed-Ex web site!) to your company address, with guaranteed two to three day delivery. Please tell us if you would prefer shipment by U.S. Mail or if you desire express delivery.
If you decide to use our paper self study books, they will be sent to you in a 3 ring binder. We print them as the orders come in, so we don't have to send people an out of date book just to get it off the shelf. And we are constantly making changes to them. People who have used previous editions tell us that with the binder they took whole chapters out to carry in their briefcase to read over lunch, on planes, in airports, on trains, etc. They also liked the binder because they could insert their solutions to problems right in the book. Finally, with the binder they could study just a few pages at a time instead of trying to work from a thick book.
Add shipping per order ($15 in the U.S.) (Federal Express to arrive at your U.S. company address in two to three days) *
You can order self study books or enroll for a course with your credit card by calling AIS toll-free at (800) 635-9442 weekdays between 9 and 5 Mountain Time (UTC minus seven hours). Or you can print our order form and fax it with credit card information or mail it with a check.
The regular phone number is (208) 233-3222 and the AIS fax number is (208) 234-2154. Please don't send credit card numbers in e-mail messages. Such messages are not secure from prying eyes in route.
* Shipping charges outside the continental U.S. are additional. We often ship outside the U.S. by Federal Express. If you would like an estimate of what the shipping costs would be, please e-mail Yvette at
Tell her what books you are interested in and where you might like them shipped. She will be happy to reply with detailed shipping costs.
You can save by ordering these books in electronic form at Accounting Institute Seminars e-book CPA review.
WHERE SHOULD I START?
Why are there so many different self study books? Because the people who are taking the CPA exam aren't all stamped from one mold. People who took their college classes several years ago have different needs from those who have had all their accounting classes within the last couple of years.
People who haven't had recent FAR college classes might best begin with the Present Value subtopic book, then move on to Balance Sheet Measurement and then Income Statement Recognition. After completing those, they will be ready for the Advanced Financial Accounting book, and finally the CPA Review of Financial Accounting and Reporting book itself.
In the BEC section, people who haven't had a cost accounting class might start with the Present Value subtopic book (same book as the present value book in FAR), then move into Cost and Managerial Accounting.
