There are a few different CPA review courses that offer audio lectures and audio CPA study materials. This format is a great option for CPA candidates who are on the go a lot and don’t have tons of time to sit in front of their computer or a book. Hence, the best CPA learning materials in an audio format allow you to study and do another task at the same time.
For instance, you can listen to lectures on your commute to work or class. You can upload a series of lessons on your phone and listen to them while you are on a jog or doing simple chores around the house. There’s an endless number of ways you can incorporate these lessons into your everyday activities. It’s unfortunate that not all CPA prep courses offer audio options.
For years, Roger was the only company that offered any type of audio lessons in their course format, but luckily we have more options now. Here’s a review of the best Audio CPA study materials.
CPA Audio Courses Compared
Roger CPA Audio Course
The CPA audio review content from Roger is by far the best and most comprehensive audio study guide on the market. It includes audio recordings of every video lecture in the Roger CPA review Elite course. The main reason why the Roger audio course is so good is that Roger’s lecture style lends itself so well to the audio format. Roger is energetic and entertaining. This is great because there is nothing worse than listening to a boring lecture. You start to zone out or fall asleep. Fortunately, Roger keeps you awake and engaged during all your study time.
He is also very descriptive and includes a lot of details in his examples. Therefore, this helps the listener understand the topics and concepts without having to reference their study plan for each lecture.
The entire Roger audio CPA study materials come in MP3 format and can be uploaded to your phone or any mobile device. Consequently, this unlimited access means you can take them anywhere with you. Roger offers tons of hours of audio lectures for each CPA exam section including:
|Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR)||16||$115|
|Business Environment and Concepts (BEC)||7||$115|
The audio courses are sold separately for $115 each or $449 for the entire set of 43 hours of audio lessons.
Yaeger CPA Audio Course
The Yaeger audio CPA study materials consist of audio lectures that have been adapted from their full CPA review course. In other words, they are audio recordings of the video lectures included the full set of study materials.
These video lectures also lend themselves to the audio format because the Yaeger instructors tend to be extremely detailed in their lesson approach– even more so than Roger. They give tons of details and explanations about each topic.
Probably the most useful part of these self-study audio lessons is the past CPA review question explanations and examples. Yaeger goes through a few past exam questions in each lesson and explains his thought process behind answering the questions correctly. This is a big help in practicing for the exam.
|Financial Accounting and Reporting (FAR)||18||$125|
|Business Environment and Concepts (BEC)||11||$125|
A full set of audio lessons is included in the Yaeger CPA review course. You can also purchase these separately for $125 each or $445 for the entire set of 45.5 hours. Although this is a better deal than Roger’s course, these lectures tend to be on the dry and boring side. They are informational but boring.
Gleim CPA Audio Course
Gleim CPA Review includes some audio components in their test prep course, but they don’t equate to a complete audio course. It also can’t be purchased outside of their main cram course.
Personally, I don’t think that review audio lectures are enough to properly prepare for the CPA exam. You should get a full-time CPA review course that fits your learning style and lets you learn at your own pace. Ultimately, even the best ever audio course is more of a supplement to a real set of study materials.
That being said, I think the Roger audio course is probably the best one out there. If you are looking for an audio supplement, I’d get this one.
